General questions

How much does bookkeeping cost in Jacksonville, FL?

Jax Bookkeeper's monthly bookkeeping starts at $295 per month for small businesses with up to 75 transactions. Most Jacksonville clients with 100–300 monthly transactions pay $395–$650 per month. One-time QuickBooks cleanup projects start at $500. Use our price calculator for an instant estimate based on your transaction volume, accounts, and add-ons.

What's the difference between a bookkeeper and a CPA?

A bookkeeper records and reconciles transactions. A CPA is licensed by the state after passing the Uniform CPA Exam, meeting education and experience requirements, and completing continuing education, and is trained in tax, financial reporting, and internal controls. At Jax Bookkeeper, a licensed Florida CPA does your bookkeeping, so the person reconciling your accounts also understands how each entry affects your tax return and your lender's view of the business.

Is Jax Bookkeeper a CPA firm? Do you prepare tax returns?

Jax Bookkeeper is led by a licensed Florida CPA and focuses exclusively on bookkeeping, QuickBooks, and financial reporting. We do not prepare tax returns. We deliver a tax-ready package to your preparer each year and coordinate with them directly. If you need a preparer, we'll refer you to one we trust.

Do you only work with businesses in Jacksonville?

Our office is in San Marco and most clients are in Jacksonville, the Beaches, St. Johns County, and Clay County. Because the work happens in QuickBooks Online, we also serve clients remotely throughout Florida.

What software do you use?

QuickBooks Online is our primary platform. We also support Xero, and we work with the tools small businesses already use: Gusto, QuickBooks Payroll, Bill.com, Dext, Square, Toast, Shopify, Stripe, and most practice management and field service systems.

How do I get started?

Book a free 20-minute call or send us a message. We'll ask about your business, take a look at your current books (if any), and send a fixed-price proposal within two business days. Onboarding typically takes one to two weeks.

Will I have to sign a long-term contract?

No. Monthly bookkeeping is month to month with 30 days' notice. Cleanup and setup projects are fixed-fee and stand alone.

How do you keep my financial data secure?

We use read-only bank feeds through QuickBooks Online, multi-factor authentication on every account, a secure client portal for document exchange, and we never store your bank login credentials. QuickBooks Online is SOC 2 compliant and encrypts data in transit and at rest.

What if my books are a mess or years behind?

That's common and fixable. We start with a free diagnostic review, give you a fixed price to bring everything current, and then move to monthly service so it doesn't happen again.

Can you work with my existing accountant or tax preparer?

Yes, and we prefer to. We share accountant access to QuickBooks, answer their questions directly, and deliver the year-end package in the format they want.

How is CPA-led bookkeeping different from Bench, Pilot, or a national service?

National services assign your account to a rotating team of bookkeepers, often on proprietary software you can't take with you. Jax Bookkeeper gives you one licensed CPA who knows your business, works in your own QuickBooks Online file, and is available to meet in Jacksonville. You own your data, and you can reach the person doing the work.

Do you offer payroll?

We don't run payroll ourselves. We set up and coordinate payroll through Gusto or QuickBooks Payroll, record each payroll in your books, and reconcile tax liabilities so nothing is missed.

Service-specific questions are answered on each service page: monthly bookkeeping, QuickBooks cleanup, pricing. Based in San Marco, Jacksonville.
